Each of these paints is pre-mulled and portioned into seashells. This set comes with 6 historic colors, titanium white (a non-toxic substitute for Lead white), lampblack, Vagone green earth, yellow ochre, Venetian red, and Ultramarine blue (a chemical equivalent to Frau Angelico blue). These shell paints can be used as water colors, or can be hydrated with water and mixed with egg yolk to produce medieval tempera for manuscript illumination.
